Come March 15th,
the Ann Arbor Symphony under Conductor Arie Lipsky will perform Scheherazade,
an exotic symphonic blend of music inspired by the Arabian Nights and Sufi Romantic
Poetry at the Michigan Theatre. Led by Cellist, Amit Peled, Scheherazade
showcases each instrument in the orchestra. It’s one of Ann Arbor’s more
popular overtures and will undoubtedly warrant a packed house and a well-deserved
crescendo of applause. By the way tickets are still available and can be purchased here.
Just a
couple of nights later on March 17, another symphony of sorts from Ann Arbor
will be performing on court at the Big Ten Conference Men’s Basketball
Tournament in Chicago. These basketball instrumentalists, donned in Maize and
Blue, will showcase the skill and athleticism of each member of its orchestra.
Through the synchronization of dribble drive penetration, skip passing
techniques, and half-court offensive spacing concepts, Conductor John Beilein, will hold his baton smartly knowing that his orchestra is one of the feel good
stories of the Collegiate Sports Year. Most likely this performance will receive its
own crescendo of applause. By the way tickets might be a little tougher to get.
The Road ahead
for the Ann Arbor Symphony leads back to the Michigan Theatre for its April
performance of Mahler’s Symphony No. 6.
The road for the Michigan Wolverines may very well lead to The Georgia
Dome in Atlanta and the Final Four.
